Jersey City, NJ – The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, the 501(c)(4) political arm of the Center for Biological Diversity, announced today that it is endorsing David Ocampo Grajales in the Democratic primary in New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District. The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for legislation and legislators that will advance a progressive environmental agenda.

“Ocampo Grajales truly cares about solving the issues that are important to the communities of northern New Jersey, including fighting deeply entrenched environmental injustices and tackling the global climate crisis,” said Stephanie Kurose, northeast political director at the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “David is exactly the kind of bold, forward-thinking leader Congress needs, and we’re honored to endorse him.”

“I’m incredibly honored to have the endorsement of the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. Protecting the environment and tackling the climate crisis are key issues for our campaign,” said Ocampo Grajales. “Our constituents have a right to clean air and water but working class communities and communities of color have been denied that right. At the same time as oil companies report record profits, our community is left to deal with the effects of climate change like severe floods and extreme weather.”

“I'm excited to partner with the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund to fight for real change that includes protecting our public lands, strengthening the Endangered Species Act, and passing the Green New Deal. As a coastal community bordering the Hudson River, New Jersey’s 8th district is particularly vulnerable to climate change. By some estimates, the Hudson River is expected to rise 4 - 6 feet in the next 60 years, which means we don’t have until 2050 to fix this.”

David is running for Congress on a platform that includes support for the Green New Deal and environmental justice in New Jersey's 8th Congressional District. The seat covers the majority of Hudson County, Elizabeth, and Newark. David Ocampo Grajales was part of the inaugural class of the Green New Deal Champions. Signers of the pledge commit to rejecting any large donations from fossil fuel PACs, executives or lobbyists. They also commit to cosponsoring 10 pieces of Green New Deal-related legislation within six months of taking office. His campaign aims to uplift the voices of the working class.
